Summary
THE world premiere of a work by one of Britain's leading contemporary composers who has links to the North East will be performed by Durham Cathedral's choir this weekend. Ayrshire-born James MacMillan, who gained his PhD at Durham University in 1987, will hear his new choral composition, Missa Dunelmi, sung at a Eucharist service at 11.15am on Sunday.
The work was commissioned by Durham Cathedral with support from its Friends organisation, the Durham Cathedral Choir Association and Durham University's music department. Last year, Mac-Millan was commissioned by the Bishops' Conferences of England and Wales to write a new Mass setting for choir and congregation to be sung at two Masses celebrated by the Pope on his visit to Britain.See the full content of this document
