A MEMORIAL to a famous striking pitman is being planned on Tyneside.

William Jobling was executed for the murder of a magistrate in 1832 at the height of a bitter Jarrow miners' strike - but it was widely believed his friend Ralph Armstrong, who fled abroad, was actually responsible for the attack.
