Store Keeps Its Licence

Summary

POLICE have decided against pressing for a village store to lose its licence to sell booze even though staff were caught out selling wine to under-age teenagers three times in just over four months.

Staff at Rai's Mini Market in The Leazes, Burnopfield, near Stanley, sold bottles of wine to a girl, 15, a boy, 15 and a girl, 16, three times between May 27 and September 3 last year without asking them for proof of identity, Yesterday police were due to apply to Durham County Council to review the licence due to "concerns relating to the prevention of crime and disorder and the protection of children from harm objectives in the Licensing Act 2003".
