WITH the current cold snap showing no signs of easing over the next few days, we thought it would be nice to turn our attention to sunnier times.
This archive picture from June 1950 shows people trying to keep cool at Brandling Park in Newcastle - despite a notice that had been erected beside the children's paddling pool that read: "Stripping is prohibited". The sign, not shown in this picture, was put up after complaints from residents overlooking the park who were unhappy about seeing children in their "birthday suits" during the hot weather.See the full content of this document
