I HAD to laugh last week when AN of Stanley saw three men watering flowers in the heavy rain. Well this week I would like to ask the public which is most important? Gateshead spending pounds 4.8m on flowerbeds or 98% of road signs obscured by trees because they can't afford to cut the trees back? I would love to see all the road signs available to drivers but 98% are covered by trees. After many complaints they say they can't afford to cut them. They are blaming the heavy rain for all the road signs being obscured. pounds 4.8m on flowerbeds and 98% of road signs obscured by trees is disgusting. I am sure the readers will have something to say about that. TC, Whickham.

ABOUT cutting the grass in the rain at Washington, I think local authorities want a pat on the head for the excellent job they do in keeping the grass good. And the weather we've had this year means if they hadn't been cut in the rain it would have been a metre high.
