THE European Commission is offering millions of pounds in grants to private freight companies coming up with new ways of cutting road congestion by shifting the transport of goods to rail, inland waterways and short-sea shipping.
A total of about pounds 44m is available this year to help support the high-risk start-up phase of new services which can demonstrate a significant shift of freight off the roads of Europe, the Commission announced this week.See the full content of this document
