A TYNESIDE school that's been the heart of the community since it opened has been celebrating its centenary. Atkinson Road Primary in Benwell, Newcastle, turns the grand old age of 100 this year, and pupils and teachers held a reunion tea party yesterday to mark the milestone.

The celebration was attended by former pupils and staff, some of which have helped the school to put together a collection of old photographs and memorabilia.
