Relief for Patients

Summary


Hundreds of heart patients a year will benefit thanks to investment of pounds 7m in a Tyneside Hospital.

Health Secretary John Reid today revealed the cash will be spent on expanding Newcastle's pioneering Freeman Hospital. It will pay for 700 extra patients a year to have revascularation, a procedure which restores the blood flow through narrow coronary arteries to relieve angina and reduce the risk of heart attacks.
