STATUS QUO Newcastle City Hall, Saturday. HAVING witnessed another dismal display at St James's Park I was looking forward to being uplifted by a different cockney Mafia outfit, of sorts, who were in town on Saturday night.
This year sees the Quo on the road for a UK and European tour as they unleash their latest release - Pictures: 40 Years of Hits, a multi-format collection spanning their incredible chart career. The band has been rocking all over the world in some shape or form since the late 60s. In this time they have achieved numerous musical records, such as: performing to an estimated total audience in excess of 25 million; travelling some four million miles; spending 23 years away from home; playing 40 Wembley gigs; enjoying more hits than any other group in rock and roll history (more than 60 as of 2007); surviving a quadruple heart by-pass operation (Rick Parfitt); a cancer scare (Parfitt again); the first rock band to appear in Coronation Street; and switching on the Blackpool illuminations, the list is impressive and endless.
