Summary


A ROW erupted after girls were sent home from school for wearing boots to prevent them falling on slippy pavements.

Teachers at Washington School turned the girls away, claiming the Uggstyle footwear contravened uniform policy. But parents branded the move "ridiculous" and said allowances should be made because of the freezing temperatures. Headteacher Michael O'Brien said: "Paths around the school have been cleared and we have made every effort to stay open during the bad weather. "If pupils want to change their footwear when they get to school, I don't have a problem with that."
