DIET coke and Mentos experiment...

Anyone who visited the Centre for Life on the opening weekend of Newcastle Science Fest 2009 may have been surprised to witness fountains of diet coke reaching high into the air. For those that missed it, you can watch the extravaganza here: www.tinyurl.com/ c23vag But how does it work? Fizzy drinks are carbonated, which means that a lot of carbon dioxide gas is forced into the drink under pressure. When you release the pressure by opening the cap, the gas is released and your drink gets the bubbles we all seem to love.
