Summary
A PIONEER in fair trading has been appointed as chair of NHS Newcastle and North Tyneside Community Health board. Richard Adams will lead a community health services organisation that is part of Newcastle and North Tyneside Primary Care Trusts, which has a budget of pounds 97.1m and more than 2,900 staff. He has been a non- executive director of Newcastle PCT for the last three years.
Mr Adams, whose working life has been spent in the founding, development and support of public, community and social enterprises and organisations, set up Traidcraft in 1979 and for nine years was its managing director. In 1989 he convened the first meeting of the UK's Fairtrade Foundation, was a member of its board from 1992 to 1999, and continues to work with EU institutions on fair trade policy frameworks.See the full content of this document
