FIRST of all, I admit I do have an exemption for the congestion charge in London and would assume if the charge was introduced in Newcastle I would also receive an exemption from the city council as a disabled driver - not just someone who has a blue badge, but as a disabled person who is in receipt of car tax exemption. Yes, there is a difference.
I would like to ask the council just who it wants in the city. I used to travel into Newcastle at least three times a week. Then it started bus lanes, oneway streets, bus-only streets and queues for car parks. I noticed many drivers - generally just one person in a car - would drive between the East End through the city and the West End. You also had drivers short-cutting, using the city as a rat- run. One thing that really annoyed me was people who work in the city being dropped off by husbands/ wives and others who work in the city, parking all day while at work.
