Letter: Your Shout - I Know War Is Not for Glorifying

Summary

IN REPLY to AS of Felling Little England mentality stinks, August 18), in actual fact, it is the contents of his letter that stinks.

For his information, as a Second World War seaman gunner, Royal Navy, I do not glorify war, and still remember lost shipmates. His stupid statement that I would be more than willing to use our armed forces as cannon fodder proves that he lacks the ability to write a sensible letter. As I remarked in a previous letter, AS is of a kind who blamed Margaret Thatcher if it rained or if their local football team got beaten. His reference to the Little England mentality is laughable. For his information, I was born and bred in the Shetland Isles and I was brought up to be proud of being British, and further for his information, in every post in which I served in the Navy, there were Englishmen, Scotsmen, Welshmen and lads from Northern Ireland, all of us proud of being British and proud of our British flags, and that of the Royal Navy.
