Summary
This is the first time I have ever written to a newspaper, but I just wanted to say that I thought Kathy Secker was completely right in her judgement of Labour's defeat in the local council elections in Newcastle.
I was at university, in Sheffield, and witnessed the election of a Liberal council in a traditional Labour area. I think that Labour in Sheffield won it back and retained the council in these elections by learning lessons quickly and making it clear that change was afoot. Unless Labour councillors in Newcastle get their act together and have a fresh, new approach with a break from the past, then they will be out of office for 10 years at least.
