SERGIO GARCIA left Carnoustie a sad man again-and more than a little angry with it. Eight years after rounds of 89 and 83 had left him dead last on 30 over par, the 27-year-old Spanish star this time finished seven under.

A last-hole bogey dropped Garcia into a four-hole play-off with Padraig Harrington, and his Ryder Cup team-mate won it by one to end Europe's 31-major barren spell.
