Summary

WHETHER you're spending the festive period with your teenagers, step-children or without your children for the first time, Family Lives has put together the following tips to ensure a stress-free Christmas: 1. If you're feeling pre-Christmas stress is getting too much, you can always talk to Family Lives. Call our free 24/7 helpline: 0808 800 2222, or drop an e-mail to the support line at parentsupport@parentlineplus.org.uk. 2. Christmas is an expensive time for everyone, and trying to get your children all the presents they want is not easy. To stop you over-spending, you should come up with a budget - and stick to it. Ask children to list presents in order of preference. 3. Be understanding: you might not see the great importance of having the latest trainers or Xbox but these things can really matter to a child, so if you say no, try not to be flippant about it.

4. Hosting Christmas can sometimes feel like a bit of a burden, especially if you're cooking dinner. It's easier said than done, but try to get organised early. Try not to leave everything until the last minute; the earlier you get started the easier it will be.
