FRUSTRATED Dave Thompson admits Newcastle Falcons had no choice but to cancel Sunday's Gloucester clash with the Kingston Park pitch buried under more than a foot of snow. The Falcons postponed the Guinness Premiership clash yesterday morning after discussions with their opponents and Premier Rugby, the league's governing body.
With the white-out expected to continue over the weekend, Falcons chairman Thompson said club officials explored all avenues of staging the contest safely. However, despite their best efforts, they could not find ways round firstly the sheer amount of snow on the pitch, but more importantly ensuring supporter safety. Thompson said: "There are covers on the pitch, but even by yesterday morning when we made the decision there was already a foot of snow on the pitch and that makes 2,000 cubic metres.See the full content of this document
