NORTH East fishing leaders have given a cautious welcome to radical new plans to restore hope to beleaguered trawler fleets. After decades of dwindling white fish stocks and declining fishing communities, the European Commission has unveiled a programme aimed at "reviving the industry's fortunes".
The plans include banning a practise currently backed by the Common Fisheries Policy, of dumping undersized fish back into the sea instead of selling it to consumers.See the full content of this document
