Punters had a lot to thank a bookmaker for after Ed Andrewes booted home favourite Gunner Welburn in the Royal Artillery Gold Cup at Sandown yesterday.

Andrewes is the commercial manager of on-line layers Blue Square and came in for the ride after his friend Will Ritson, half-owner of Gunner Welburn, suggested he contact trainer Andrew Balding for the mount after Dominic Alers-Hankey was injured at the weekend.
