A FIRE chief found himself at the centre of a potential double disaster while making a routine trip to HQ.
Barry Bennett, station manager at Blyth Fire Station, was driving from Blyth to the Morpeth headquarters of Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service on Thursday when he chanced upon the two incidents. A car had swerved from the road into a lake on farmland and was sinking with the driver still in it.
