THERE was a double bonus for Newcastle Benfield at the weekend. Not only did they romp into the semi-finals of the Northumberland FA Senior Cup with victory at Walker Central, but Whitley Bay were the only other topsix side in the Northern League to win.

"We could hardly have wished for a better day," said manager Tom Wade, who has taken Benfield into third position with a realistic chance of clinching the championship.
