A TYNESIDE man climbed Western Europe's highest mountain for charity. Colin Jackson, a support manager at the Coop, last month completed a gruelling climb of the Alps' highest peak to raise funds for the retailer's charity of the year, RNID.

Warning Over Fake Firm Card Con Call
POLICE in Newcastle are urging residents to be aware of a telephone scam in which people are conned into giving credit card details to bogus utility firms. The warning follows an incident in Gosforth where an elderly woman took a call from someone claiming to be from BT, saying she had a bill to pay. The woman was asked to give credit card details over the phone or risk being cut off.
