Warning Over Fake Firm Card Con Call

POLICE in Newcastle are urging residents to be aware of a telephone scam in which people are conned into giving credit card details to bogus utility firms. The warning follows an incident in Gosforth where an elderly woman took a call from someone claiming to be from BT, saying she had a bill to pay. The woman was asked to give credit card details over the phone or risk being cut off.

COMMUNITY and voluntary groups are being given the chance to get expert advice on funding at a drop-in session next week.
