A COMMERCIAL law firm has appointed a new solicitor. Muckle LLP has brought in Tim Davies to its Employment Services Group. Tim, 33, qualified as a solicitor in 2001 and joins the firm from Clyde & Co in London.
ENERGY giant British Gas is creating 2,600 new jobs as it prepares for the roll-out of smart meter technology. The announcement came as the company opened a new Energy Academy in the Midlands, which will train the engineers responsible for installing the smart meters.

AUDIO expert Get Carter Productions has won radio advertising campaign work for three further major UK events. The Blaydon-based firm has landed contracts to promote The Royal Show, taking place between July 7 and 10 at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, The Homebuilding and Renovation Show and The Kitchen and Bathroom Show, both held at Sandown Park Racecourse, Surrey.

ATALENTED student is starting a summer placement with an IT cons u l t a n c y. Newcastle University student Gabriel Radu will be joining the team at Durhambased Waterstons for the next three months. He won the opportunity to undertake the placement after achieving the top average grade in his class, an impressive 94%, for the first year of his Computing Science degree. Gabriel will also be presented with a new laptop by Waterstons as recognition for his hard work.
A PR firm has added its latest recruit. Lorna Gangel, 24, from Gateshead, has joined the Persuasion PR team. The trained journalist has had numerous articles published in The Journal, Chronicle and The Crack magazine and completed a successful six month internship with ITV Tyne Tees.

AMARKET research agency has opened a new centre. The Newcastlebased agency Explain has moved 12 staff from its head office to the CATI (computer aided telephone interview) centre in South Gosforth. That has freed up two floors of their HQ, allowing the firm to make further additions to the senior team, which it recently split into strands of quantitative and qualitative expertise.
