MORE than 200 youngsters from 14 schools took part in the annual year five and year six tag rugby competition organised by South Tyneside School Sport Partnership and South Tyneside Sport Development. Jarrovians RFC on Hebburn's Lukes Lane Estate was the venue for the event, attended by RFU area development manager Matt Bryan.
Adders Within a Touch of Victory!
THE Black Adders and Sage touch rugby teams represented the North East in the first round of the Scottish National Touch Series. Twenty teams took part in the competition, which attracted the very best touch rugby sides from across Scotland.
DAVE Bell took advantage of excellent conditons to extend his lead in the latest race of Derwentside Cycling Club's Midweek Time Trial Series. Bell came home in 14 mins 44 secs ahead of John Swinbank (Ryton Tri) with 15:07, Dave Hopper (15:25) and Donaldson, who was fourth in 15:29.
Hayes Is Hoping to Net a Double
NORTH coach Deirdre Hayes has jetted out to Israel in a bid to guide her England team to international glory. The US playcaller is hoping Team Northumbria will be celebrating a double hoops success, with starlet Ruth Davison in line to make Team GB's under-20 squad.
Victors in High-Est of Spirits!
MORE than 100 pupils from across the North East competed in the Regional High Five netball competition at Newcastle University's Cochrane Park sports ground. School teams who had finished as winners or runner-ups in the Northumberland High Five final went on to represent their county in the two-league tournament.
Toon Rowing Girls Put in Oarsome Display
NEWCASTLE University's novice women's eight team beat off competition from some of the UK's best squads to win the Pricewaterhouse Coopers Cup in the Academic Eight category at Henley. The squad consisted of Lydia Woods, Emily Field, Ragne Skarra, Marte Flaate, Amanda Wilson, Ellie Earp, Ami Hodges and Minna Jones-Walters and was coxed by Ruaridh Macphee. The well deserved victory was the culmination of a fine season for the girls.
ALNMOUTH Golf Club are holding free golf coaching taster sessions for adults during July and August and sessions for juniors until September. Warkworth GC hold similar courses on July 7, 14 and 28 (5.307.00 for adults and juniors, 7.008.30 for juniors and nonmembers).

THE first ever Bonanza Tournament took place at Marden Bridge Sports Centre in Whitley Bay - with more than 70 badminton players from around the North East participating. The event was aimed at social or casual players, and proved such a success organisers are looking forward to repeating the tournament next year.
