A hole lot of trouble on road

POTHOLES are posing a danger to motorists using a busy Tyneside road. Gateshead Council say that potholes on the westbound carriageway of the A695 at Blaydon pose a 'significant' safety risk to motorists, particularly motorcyclists.

War hero gets chance to say prayers for comrades with Queen

A WAR veteran who shot down an enemy plane in the Falklands war is to meet the Queen at Buckingham palace. Doug McCready was hailed a hero when he returned to Tyneside after fighting in some of the toughest battles in the 1980s conflict.

Bloody conflict

DOUG McCready fought in one of the bloodiest battles of the Falklands War. The 1982 conflict was between Argentina and the United Kingdom over the disputed Falkland Islands, just East of Argentina.

A FORMER family GP has passed away, aged 64. Family, friends and patients are mourning Dr Alexandra Duke, who died at home in Chester-le-Street on June 20.
